The automotive repair and maintenance industry consists of companies that provide services in automotive mechatronics, tyre services, automotive servicing, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), accessories, hybrid systems, NGV systems, and powertrain maintenance for light vehicles. The primary functions of these services include repairing and replacing parts, rust-proofing, oil changes, lubrication, tyre replacements, and car washing. The demand for automotive repair and maintenance services is largely influenced by the number of vehicles on the road and how frequently they are used. Additionally, personnel in this industry are required to conduct diagnostic tests, evaluate vehicle performance, perform repairs and maintenance, handle after-service and warranty matters, and manage automotive parts inventory, all of which contribute to a holistic vehicle maintenance and repair environment.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM), and the Malaysian Rubber Board serve as regulatory and enforcement bodies to ensure that tyres used on vehicles meet required technical standards and regulations. This enforcement ensures that tyres are safe for use on the road.

This NOSS has been developed specifically for passenger vehicle wheel maintenance personnel. A tyre repair technician must ensure that all tyre systems are correctly installed and functioning properly. Their responsibilities typically include tyre replacement, rim replacement, wheel balancing, and wheel alignment, ensuring safe and efficient vehicle performance.
